Baby E at 14 Months

Eldon is at such a fun age. I haven't really felt that I've basked in all the goodness of motherhood much. I have always been grateful to be a mom, but haven't really reveled in it. Lately, however, I catch myself just wanting to soak up all of what Eldon is right now and lock it away in my heart for safekeeping. Maybe it's because I am a somewhat seasoned mother of toddlers, and know that the "Terrific 2's" and 3's and 4's where the battle of wills begins is nigh upon me. Eldon is such a little love. He's the only one of my children that I can remember that hugs me. He wraps his little arms around my neck and leans his head on my shoulder and melts my heart. This, however, is a double edged sword. I am his comfort object, and since I have stopped nursing him, he will wake up at 4 or 5 AM, and it is a MAJOR struggle to get him back to sleep. But during the daylight hours, he's a sweetsie. He loves to give those open mouthed kisses and loves to play chase with his brothers and "runs" as fast as he can while still capable of maintaining balance. He giggles all the time, deep, pure, and consuming giggles. He is my little sunshine boy with his bright eyes, tan(ish) skin, yellow, yellow hair, and a big smile on his face.

Here he is taunting me, daring me to grab his toes:

He is so strong!!!! If he doesn't want his diaper changed, or doesn't want to be strapped in his car seat it is really hard to physically make him. Best option: provide a distraction. Best distraction: food. This kid loves his food. He will squawk and squawk until you give him a bite of whatever you happen to be eating regardless of the fact that he'd already had his meal.

He hasn't said much recently.  But Lincoln didn't either at this age, and he is on a fairly normal learning track. He is catching on to some animal sounds. A favorite word of his is "uh-oh" which he says PRIOR to dropping something off the landing down into the entry way. He loves this. Matt always comes home to a collection of trinkets from around the house that have all been thrown overboard into the entry way.

He loves to climb onto things and from his good examples has learned to jump on the bed. He is King Kong of the train table and the other 2 always come crying to me when Kong has struck again, destroying their newly built towers, zoos, or train tracks.

Since we have lived in Houston, it's been too hot for Eldon to wear socks or shoes. I have just recently started putting socks on him, and he LOVES it. If he ever fines a stray sock, he'll try to put it on himself, and when he can't get the job done, he'll come and beg me to do it. He's kinda grumpy in this video, but I love how he lifts his foot to admire the sock.

Sure love this guy.
