Lincoln has been busy lately. Lost his 4 front teeth, and then he went a broke his arms. Compression fracture near the wrist on the radius, both arms. Ever since we saw Paddington Bear, Lincoln has been putting his leg over the banister, and I've caught him and told him not to do it. This time, it was Sunday afternoon, everyone was napping except Lincoln and myself, and I as on the computer when I hear a big crash, and then a scream that you never want to hear, cause you know something is terribly wrong. I rushed around the corner and found Lincoln crumpled on the ground. He wasn't moving, which scared me, but I was relieved he was crying. I decided it was safe to roll him over, and when I did, I saw blood from his eyelid dripping down the side of his face. He was in total shock and couldn't exactly answer my questions. He just kept screaming, "You told me not to!! You shouldn't have let me watch Paddington Bear". We had no idea how far he fell till he got home and told us it was just 2 steps down from the top and his hands were slippery because he had been eating a croissant. I realized later that he wasn't moving cause he couldn't push himself up off the ground with his hands. I actually heard two hits. I think the first hit was his hands and face and second was his knees. They thought he may have cracked his knee cap, but gratefully no. I am hoping his brothers learn their lesson vicariously. Just so grateful it was just his arms and not his head, neck or back. Counting my blessings.
Missing teeth!
Feeling pretty sorry for himself in the ER. Sunday, July 26th
Here's how Paddington does it.
They put splints on Lincoln initially so the swelling would go down before they casted him. It was the pits because with his arms at right angles and little to no use of his fingers, every aspect of life was almost impossible. I had to help him use the bathroom. He couldn't color, play with toys or eat by himself. I chopped his food up into bite sized pieces and then he ate like a dog off his plate.
He had his splints on for 10 days. Longest 10 days EVER. The Tylenol with Codeine could only be given to him every 6 hours but would only be effective for 4 so the last two hours he'd moan and randomly burst into tears. It really was pathetic. The Codeine would also make him sick to his stomach and would knock him out in the weirdest of places and oddest of positions.
Luckily, he got lots of visitors and notes in the mail to keep his mind off of things. Every morning he'd ask me who else was coming over and what were they going to bring him. He could get used to the presents and visitors.
Cozy stairs.
Cozy table.
Cozy floor. Don't mind Eldon.
The bruise on his knee after a few days.
Bruise on his shin.
When he went to the children's hospital after the 10 days, he got a ride from our car to the front door. He liked that!
He felt pretty insecure without his splints on and would not move his arms from this position until the doctor came in and made him. He was not pleased.
Waterproof casts ON!!! Yay for WATERPROOF!! Best $50 we've ever spent. The summer ended up not being a total drag, and he then had use of his hands and elbows!!!
Hopefully never again.
