Lincoln's Episode

Lincoln just prior to the MRI. He did NOT like getting the IV put in! Magic wand for luck!

I neglected to mention this in the previous post about the family reunion, but while we were at the cabin, Lincoln woke up one morning and said he didn't feel good and that he was going to throw up. He says that often enough that it is kinda like the boy who cries wolf. Just thinking he was being dramatic, I didn't get out of bed and just told him to go to the bathroom. I glanced and saw that he was headed dizzily into the hallway rather than the bathroom. He was extremely disoriented and tipsy. I jumped out of bed and helped him to the toilet. He threw up and then said that he couldn't hear anything. Then his eyes glazed over and he went into a weird stare and then he couldn't stand. He was totally unresponsive although conscious.
Bennett and Eldon had both had febrile seizures so I had read enough to know that although Lincoln wasn't convulsing, he was likely still having a seizure. I ran to get Matt. Matt came down and tried to make him snap out of it, but to no avail. We brought him upstairs, and he threw up again while still in seizure mode. We threw him in the car, and drove to the closest hospital. The doc there said it might be some kind of stomach bug. Yeah, right. When he finally slept it off and came out of it, he didn't know who we were, and didn't know how he had gotten to the hospital. He didn't know his name or how old he was. We were quite concerned. 30 minutes later he was back to normal like nothing had happened.
Needless to say, I wasn't just gonna let it slide like it was nothing, so the minute we got back to Houston, I had him scheduled with a specialist. After an MRI and and EEG, it was determined that there was no mass or tumor that caused it (thank goodness), and that the seizure took place in a the part of the brain that is indicative of Benign Rolandic Epilepsy. Doc says he'd give it a 50/50 on it happening again. He says the episodes will likely not be frequent enough to warrant medication, and that he will grow out of it by age 15. Good news! So grateful to have such good health care available to us.

Got an awesome wheelchair ride out to the car.
