Seizure, stray dog rescue and a rodeo all in a day

Matt took the day off work so we could miss the huge weekend rodeo crowds. The boys got dressed in their rodeo gear, and then we ate breakfast. I was doing dishes while the boys ate. Out of nowhere, Bennett asks me why Eldon was shaking. Eldon had had a bit of a fever the previous night, but when he woke up, he felt normal. Lincoln was complaining of aches so I gave him so Ibuprofen, and then gave Eldon some for good measure. Apparently, I didn't give it to him soon enough because when I turned around to see what Bennett was talking about, Eldon had his back arched over the back of the bar chairs with his eyes rolled back in his head, convulsing. This is his second seizure, 4th in the family. Lincoln and Bennett have each had one. We are getting pretty good at handling these things and staying calm. I ran over as fast as possible and grabbed him before he fell out of his chair onto the tile. I laid him on his side and started counting to see how long it lasted. I was worried about the peice of toast in his mouth, cause his breathing is so crazy, I thought he might inhale it. There was mucous coming out of everywhere. The other boys were in tears. Matt came in from doing some yard work to this scene, and I continued counting as he was realizing what was happening. Eldon didn't really come out of it very smoothly. I thought he was choking and had a hard time getting the toast out. We panicked and little a debated about calling 9-1-1. After a minute he started crying a little bit which was a huge relief, and then he fell in to a deep, hard sleep immediately thereafter. I took him to the pediatrician for good measure, even though I knew they'd tell me that there was nothing to be done, just to continue administering fever reducers. They did determine that it wasn't strep or the flu.

Slept through the throat swabs. Was snoring like crazy.

The little cowboy, coming to.

As I was running out the door to take Eldon to the pediatrician, there were these two little dogs running in the street, soaked from all the recent rain. We hurried and put them in the backyard on our way out and decided to figure out what to do with them later. Lincoln named the little one Jumpy and the other one Cuddly. When we got back, Jumpy had escaped out of a small hole in our fence. Cuddly was still there, cute as ever. I wanted to keep her but Matt said no. Her collar was totally frayed and no tags. I figured she didn't have a owner. We posted some "found" signs and to our surprise, we were able to locate her owners. They found "Jumpy" at our neighbors house across the street. The boys were very sad to say goodbye. They did like posting the found posters with me.

After all the commotion, Eldon seemed pretty much back to normal, so we decided to go to the rodeo after all. Lincoln got the aches in a bad way, but we managed to have some fun.

Watching the chickies hatch.

The alpaca was a little intimidating for Eldon.

Eldon found a safe zone.

Deer!

Kangaroo in a pouch

Thought this billy goat was pretty funny standing on the cow's rump

Eldon did better with the babies.
