Bebopping, Beatboxing, Hiphopping, etc.

First the bebopping. Whenever Lincoln's room is a mess, I sing a little clean up song that my good friend used to sing to her little guy. "Clean up, clean up, everybody, everywhere. Clean up, clean up. Everybody do your share". Up until recently, Lincoln, would never do his share. But then one day when I started singing the song, he sang "Bebop, bebop..." and then he proceeded to pick up almost all his toys. Ever since then, he's been quite a good helper. He sings "Bebop, bebop..." every time he sees me pick something up, even when I just dropped a pen or something. It makes me laugh. Anyway, here he is in action. Another favorite part of this video is that he keeps trying to see "Beebee" on the LCD screen of the camera. So funny.

Now beatboxing. Last September, the branch president's wife, Ko Kyeong Ah, who plays the the Gayageum, a 12-string traditional Korean instrument (shown below), gave me 2 tickets to a traditional Korean instrument concert. I was very excited, and looking forward to a very educational and cultural experience.

I was expecting something like the following YouTube video that I found. Long, drawn out, and quite academic. The first couple of numbers were like that.

But then this happened:

Beatboxing!!!??? And then this happened:

Hiphopping!!!?? I about died laughing. It seems that everything here is just so funny like that. You NEVER get what you're expecting unless you're expecting to get something you're not expecting. Milk is extra creamy and tastes funny, garlic bread is sweet, pizza has corn and squid on it. All those things are western things done Korean style, but I thought that for sure, they could get a TRADITIONAL Korean Instrument Concert right. Wrong! Oh man... it is for these reasons that I will be sad to leave Korea. How will it be to see a cake and expect it to have sugar in it, and then bite into it, and you're right, it actually does have some sugar in it? Life just won't be interesting enough with no more surprises.

Anyway as for the etcetera part of this post, Bennett has been sitting up these days. He loves it. He can see everything and has both his hands to explore things. I usually put the Boppy around him cause he can be a little tipsy, but he generally does quite well without the extra support.

Marissa, I think we accidentally stole that cool figure 8 chew toy. We'll bring it back in August. I don't think you've missed it yet, but you will!

A little love tap from brother.

I love Lincoln in the background doing his thing.

Another important thing that has happened around here... Lincoln has managed to climb out of his crib. The first time he did it was Sunday morning. He just walked out of his bedroom and greeted us in the morning. So strange! I thought he has used the play pen made ball pit next to his crib as a stepping stool. So I moved it away, but then the next morning, I heard a BIG "Kaboom!!!" and a shrill scream followed. I ran into Lincoln's room and there he lay, crumpled on the rug next to his crib sobbing. So we got a little toddler rail for him.

He loves that he can get in and out as he pleases. I'm not so sure I love it. Sometimes during the day, he'll go snuggle with his blanket in his bed just cause he can. He does fine at night, but for his nap time, I'll peak in and find him in the chair reading a book, or I'll hear him playing with his marble racer. One time when I went in to check on him, he was behind the door and decided it was time to play peek-a-boo with me. It has gotten to the point that when I come in, he'll run and jump in his bed and dive into his blankets cause he knows I mean business. He's doing better, but far from perfect.

I don't think I'll ever get an in-focus picture of this kid.

Up and over!

I'm high-centered. This is NOT working!

Ahh!!! There we go.

Well, I lied. I did get an in-focus picture of him, but I had to turn on the boob-tube to get one. Laila, this one is for you. This is on a day where I didn't comb his hair and he had a sweaty nap. I don't think his hair is straight yet, but maybe it will be in the future. Only time will tell.

Here's little lovey-bums napping on the couch. I love his little pinky.

  1. i love most things about this post. Lincoln being high-centered reminds me of the time all 3 of us attempted to get on that raft at the beach. fatty, pasty, 20-something American? check. i had that one covered. also, the last thumb sucker you knew turned out pretty cool. I have high hopes for Bennett.
